Lister Sinclair

A legendary CBC Broadcaster Lister Sinclair passed away today. I had heard him for the first time about a year ago on the CBC radio show 'Ideas' and was absolutely smitten by his fearless intrepidation, knowledge and articulation. He has been an inspiration to me as he would have been to many Canadians.
Ever since I heard him advising to strive for excellence rather than for perfection, it has been a great help in overcoming that initial fear of letting go of a creation out to the world.
Thank you Lister Sinclair!

Joshua Davis

When I first saw his illustration featured in Wallpaper(?) magazine, I found it eyegrabbing but I didn't know he'd become this influencial. I see a constant stream of illustrations that reminds me of his style.

Milton Glazer

This is an excerpt from an interview by 'designboom' with Milton Glazer on May 18th, 2004.

Designboom: describe your style, like a good friend of yours would describe it.
Milton Glazer: its most striking character is its randomness, its range, very often you could not say that the job was done by me, because there are jobs that require the absence of style, as well as those that require the presence of style....

It is so true that there are jobs that require the absence of style, as well as those that require the presence of style. In the early years as a graphic designer I found it insulting that someone would request for a design absent of my style, but over the years I've come to believe I design to increase easy access of information rather than show-off my creativity. I've had trouble putting this in words for many years, so it was refeshing to read a sentence so well phrased, in 'a matter of fact' manner from a renowned designer.

Aqua Style Buttons with Photoshop

Aqua style graphics maybe out of style but they're still useful.
I found this tutorial created by Michael Aldworth to be the easiest to follow.
